Habit Rabbit

Habit Rabbit helps users build better habits through playful challenges and gentle encouragement. Inspired by the rabbit from "The Tortoise and the Hare" — who decides to try again after losing the race — the app supports small, consistent steps toward personal growth. With calming design, visual rewards, and photo-proof challenges, Habit Rabbit makes building habits feel joyful, not overwhelming.

Overview

Background

Building new habits is hard, and many habit trackers can feel overwhelming or overly serious. Users often struggle to stay motivated because progress feels slow and repetitive. They need a system that encourages small wins, feels playful, and supports them emotionally through the ups and downs of building habits. Habit Rabbit was created to make habit-tracking feel lighter, kinder, and more rewarding — helping users stay consistent by celebrating small steps toward personal growth.

Design Process

Key Features

1. Check-in daily to track progress and collect carrots.

2. Join challenges and build habits with photo proof.

3. Redeem carrots for real-world rewards.

4. Stay motivated through a supportive community.

Research Methods

- Competitor Analysis: Studied popular habit trackers to spot design gaps and opportunities for a softer, more playful approach.

- User Interviews: Talked to real users of existing habit apps to understand emotional needs and pain points.

Research Insights

Competitor Analysis

I analyzed top habit-tracking apps to better understand their strengths and gaps.
And to identify how Habit Rabbit could offer a more playful, supportive, and motivating experience.

Drawbacks

  • Virtual-Only Rewards:
Most rewards are either purely virtual (like Habitica’s badges) or simple visual celebrations (like confetti), making motivation fade over time.

  • Solo or Small Groups:
Existing apps mostly focus on solo tracking or small private groups, limiting opportunities for public challenges and broader community support.

  • No Strong Accountability:
Without real-world rewards or proof-based systems, users often lose interest and drop habits without meaningful consequences or encouragement to stay engaged.

Opportunities

  • Real-World Incentives:
Introduce real-life rewards (like discounts, small prizes, or tangible benefits) to boost motivation and make progress feel more meaningful.

  • Public Habit Communities:
Create spaces where users can join public challenges, share goals, and feel supported by a larger community — not just private groups.

  • Real Stakes + Gentle Pressure:
Offer proof-based challenges, where users can submit a photo or journal entry to show real progress, adding accountability in a positive, non-shaming way.

Initial Ideas

Before conducting user interviews, I brainstormed several core ideas for Habit Rabbit based on common challenges people face when trying to build habits:

  • Reminders:
Gentle notifications to help users stay consistent with their habits.

  • Daily Habit Tracking and Rewards:
A system for users to track daily habits and earn small rewards for consistency.

  • Photo-Proof Challenges:
A feature where users submit a photo to prove real progress toward their habits.

  • Betting on Yourself:
Giving users the option to risk a small amount of money to stay motivated for habits they find especially difficult to maintain.

User Interview Insights

Through user interviews, I uncovered several key behaviors, needs, and emotional patterns around habit-tracking:

  • Need for Reminders:
Users often forget to track habits and value gentle, timely nudges.

  • DIY Habit Tracking:
Many relied on to-do lists or notes, but found them unmotivating over time.

  • Desire for Social Community:
Seeing others' progress could boost encouragement and accountability.

  • Mixed Feelings About Money Stakes:
Some liked financial motivation, but others preferred no-risk, softer accountability.

Challenge

Problem Statement

Many users struggle to build habits because existing tools focus on rigid tracking rather than encouragement.
They need a habit-building experience that feels supportive, playful, and rewarding — not stressful.

Prototyping and Testing

User Testing Insights
